...Shoot!

I don’t think I have a good title for this, but it’s worth your read.
How Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated the football space for the past 12 years is something we may not see in a long while again.
Albeit, I have overtime observed that when I go through their stats at the end of a season campaign, I realize that while they might have ended top scorers in different competitions, the background stat behind that feat is always identical, year in year out!
What stat exactly?
It’s the stat for ‘Shots on goal’
Both of them average over 170 attempts at goal during the course of a league campaign that spans over 8 months for 38 matches.
Guess what? The best anyone of them could muster is 50 goals! (And that’s lionel Messi ) in the 2013/14 La Liga season. My love for this short man! 😍
Okay, back to the point.
That’s 50 goals out of over 170 attempts!
On a success rate mathematically, that’s a 29.4% success rate. It doesn’t seem too impressive stat wise but that’s not where I’m headed
What I have discovered is that these players have the most attempts at goal every season!
Guess what? They have the most misses too!
But one thing is certain, they keep shooting and shooting!
We celebrate them today but how many recognize the amount of attempts it’s taken them to produce such numbers? And how many misses too!
Those missed attempts (which are more) than the goals actually
I have noticed the same with very wealthy and influential people today.
Beneath the success and glamour we see are a series of missed attempts too!
They’ve had their failures, which is some cases are more but they kept ‘shooting’.
This reminds me of a quote “we learn more in failure than in times of success”
I agree with it totally!
Ask the business moguls and serial entrepreneurs today, you’ll be surprised at how many things they tried and didn’t work out.
We celebrate their successes today but how many of us pay attention to their failed attempts?
I am writing to someone out there, to keep on ‘shooting’, embark on challenges, grab oppurtunities, marketing, talking, writing, whatever it is you do!
Don’t forget, Messi and Ronaldo still take shooting practices. Keep getting better at what you do and Shoot!

Today was my first time out since the start of the working days here in Lagos, Nigeria. I got to experience the effects of the ban on ‘keke’ and ‘okada’, you can check the words up in the oxford dictionary.  My ordeal today further lends credence to the saying that “You don’t know the value of what you have till you lose it” Maybe many of us didn’t really appreciate the value the okada and keke provided till the ban forced us to realize.  This morning, on my way to the office, seating on that bike, like a rush of wind, came this thought to me "'what if I took the other bike? What would have happened?''
