Little things
Today was my first time out since the start of the working
days here in Lagos, Nigeria. I got to experience the effects of the ban on ‘keke’
and ‘okada’, you can check the words up in the oxford dictionary.
My ordeal
today further lends credence to the saying that “You don’t know the value of
what you have till you lose it”
Maybe many of us didn’t really appreciate the value the
okada and keke provided till the ban forced us to realize. It wasn’t too bad
though, I walked a few distance till I got to areas where their operations were
permitted.
The weather was terribly hot, dry and dusty to make it worse.
You know, what we call ‘little’ things matter a lot right?
I mean the check-ups, one-minute calls, chats, texts,
appreciative messages, words of encouragements
Many times we fall into this mayhem of thought, thinking that
we need to ‘make a statement’ with expensive gestures before we can impact
those around us or before they appreciate us.
Do you know how far a simple “hello, how’re you today? Have a
nice day” can go?
I have done a little sampling with those around me, asking
them what kinds of gestures really make a mark to them. Do you know what I found
out?
Majority of them
subscribe to the idea that the seemingly little things are really what they
cherish mostly.
This is not discarding receiving expensive treats or gifts, but
pointing out that those simple gestures are actually priceless.
If you belong in this category of people who overlook the ‘little’
things, why not try this out for the next 3 months?
Whether it’s a short
call, text, at least once or twice a week, you wouldn’t know the extent to
which you’re affecting a life.
This is not to relieve you of taking people out on treats or
giving gifts, you know right?
I’m saying you don’t need all the monies to show you care. A simple 4 Naira text will go a long way.
And please I’m not talking about extending this to your
romantic partner….smiles
Call them, spend on them, you don’t even have a choice. It’s
obligatory!
It’s same with eating healthy. Many times we think it really
costs much to eat a healthy meal or balanced diet. It’s not true!
There’s power and value in what we most times call ‘little’.
Identify them around you and maximize them.
I’ll revisit this robustly very soon. You’ll like it.
So, let me practice this now;
How’re you today? I’ll make sure to ask this very often.
Drop me your reply
